In life, it is normal to encounter setbacks once in a while, but nobody prepares you for a global pandemic. 2020 has been the toughest year for me, especially as a student. It has been a month since all schools were closed to prevent the spread of the virus. People are unable to leave the house because of this crisis we are encountering. I wake up each day, hoping it will get better, but it is getting worse. My junior year of high school is over. It was tough for a lot of students not expecting that day to be their last. We are currently against a pandemic known as COVID 19; a disease that affects the middle-upper respiratory. We must take proper precautions to ensure our safety.
I had many activities I was looking forward to, but mostly soccer, my favorite sport. I would have practiced daily for games on weekends. I had tournaments and camps for the summer that are now postponed. I was also looking forward to my junior prom this year that a couple of peers and I had planned to be an unforgettable moment. I continue to be up every day with the same routine of having school through mornings until the afternoons. Later I always do my best and try to stay active as much as I can by engaging in family runs or playing soccer with my siblings.
Soccer is not just a sport for me. It is my life. It has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It is tough for me to think about what is going on, but soccer helps me conquer many situations. It is the best way for me to move forward and stay sane. This is a tough moment for everyone around the world. It has been two months in quarantine with no hope for a vaccine or cure. People are not taking this situation as seriously as possible, so it will be more difficult to move forward or even contain the virus. The quicker people learn to follow the rules, the faster we will be out of quarantine. This puts a lot of athletes, businesses, and the like a step backward.
This summer was important for me because I had all intentions of committing to a college that fits me well, but it doesn’t seem to be happening because of what is happening. Athletes immensely anticipated the summer and its events. We are not sure how long this pandemic will last, but this experience has taught me that we never know what will happen in this world. Anything could happen at any point, and many people had not anticipated these events a couple of months ago. It is tough for many of us, but it is important to do what we have to be successful. We can never know the future. Therefore, this experience has taught me to live life to the fullest when you have the chance. Secondly, it is always to be grateful for good health. We take it for granted most of the time, but it is surely a great gift to be alive and healthy. Finally, the pandemic has taught me the value of family and a strong support system. My family has been my pillar emotionally throughout the pandemic and will forever be grateful.
