TAKE HOME EXAM: DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT For the take home exam you should write an article on destination development where you use the course content to discuss and analyse the development of a chosen destination. Length: Maximum 10 pages Font: Times New Roman (size 12) Line spacing: 1,5 Choose a destination that you know well; a place that you can write about without having to do too much research (e.g your home town/region, a place you have lived before, a holiday destination you know well). The target group for your article is tourism professionals. Your answers must show your ability to refer to and apply the content of the course. The article should be structured in three parts: In the first part of the article (4-5 pages) you should: ? Briefly describe your chosen destination (what type of destination is this, location, population, tourism infrastructure, resources, attractions, visitor numbers, challenges, potentials etc) ? Describe the leadership and coordination of the destination management in the chose destination. ? Explain the partnerships and team building that have taken place in the chosen destination. ? Discuss the community relationships and involvement in the destination development in the chosen destination. In the second part of the article (2-3 pages) you should ? Choose one of these four roles that you find particularly relevant for the chosen destination: Planning and research; Product development; Marketing and promotion, or Visitor management, and discuss how the DMO works to fulfil that role. Explain why the role you chose is relevant for the destination. In the third part (1-2 pages) ? Discuss how successfully (or not) the DMO has managed to develop the destination. Give a few recommendations on how, in your opinion, the destination can sustainably develop even further. NB! You must refer to the course material (readings and other learning resources) in the text and provide a reference list the end of the document. See http://www.kildekompasset.no/english for information on proper reference style. Failure to comply with these, such as in plagiarism, may result in a fail grade.
