THE ESSAY PROMPT REDUX: Evaluate, synthesize, and apply knowledge about necessary “barbaric yawps” of innovation in the past, to propose what is needed for a sustainable future in the Anthropocene. This is a well-written, informative, and insightful mini-essay—as engaging as the ideal essay or chapter in a textbook YOU would love to read. This is a very short and focused 2-3 page essay on either controversies/interpretations/applications of a specific landmark itself (from 1815 to the present) OR the development (controversies/interpretations/applications) of a specific technology or idea in the medium as a whole. Be sure to research perspectives and interpretations, so you’ll have a Works Cited of at least five (5) sources. Investigate its current relevance in the news, museum exhibits, university conferences, blogs, and/or humanities societies. You should consider the feedback you received on your Forum proposal from me and classmates. Due Sat. at midnite; 2-3 pages, MLA formatted.
~ Always use grammar- and spell-check to catch errors easily avoided.
~ Include an IMAGE, which is in addition to the page count.
~ Please attach as a Word doc AND copy and paste it directly onto the post. Don’t save as a pdf because I can’t work with it and leave comments on it. The attachment will have neat MLA formatting, but after you copy and paste the text, don’t worry about tweaks to the formatting.
~ Also, by popular request, please post your final essay on the Forum (the same thread as your proposal) so the rest of class can enjoy your final version!

The goal is to meet our objectives in HUM 313:
1) Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension, showing familiarity with key movements and exemplary landmarks and thinkers in Western culture of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, situating innovations in their historical, intellectual, literary, and cultural contexts.
2) Synthesize, evaluate, and apply perspectives, comparing diverse and even conflicting perspectives from primary and secondary sources to articulate complex critical thinking.
3) Exemplify intellectual empathy in genuinely understanding the “other”, along with intellectual humility in recognizing our limits and need to learn for a lifetime.
4) Creative problem solving and innovation, using evidence to evaluate, synthesize, and apply the best ideas for a sustainable, joyful Anthropocene.
I already write a proposal for this essay and chose the landmark Dancing House.
There is what I wrote for my proposal:
I would chose Dancing House. The building was designed in 1992. The construction was completed four years later in 1996. This non-traditional design is really controversial. I would talk through the history of this landmark since its origin could be really interesting. Also, the structure and the interior of this building have lots to talk about. There are also lots of criticism about this landmark because of its style, shape, asymmetry, and even the material used to build it. I would love to find more literature about it to know more about its controversy and importance.
